- 1 cup warm water or cold, if you prefer
- 1 inch fresh ginger: Peeled and grated or finely minced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric or 1 inch fresh turmeric, grated
- Pinch of cayenne pepper about 1/16th of a teaspoon
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- Pinch of Himalayan pink salt About 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon
- Optional: 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup
- Optional: Pinch of black pepper just a speck!
- Optional: 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar ACV
Prep your ingredients: Start by grating your ginger and turmeric (if using fresh). Juice your lemon.
Combine in a mug: Add the grated ginger, turmeric (ground or fresh), cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and Himalayan pink salt to your favorite mug.
Add water and stir: Pour the warm (or cold) water over the ingredients.
Stir thoroughly: Mix well until the salt and powders are dissolved.
Strain (optional): If you really don't like the bits of ginger and turmeric floating around, you can strain the tonic through a fine-mesh sieve before drinking.
Sweeten (optional): If you're using honey or maple syrup, stir it in until dissolved.
Sip and enjoy: Drink it warm right away, or let it cool and add ice for a refreshing cold tonic.
Notes:
Adjust ginger, lemon, salt, and cayenne pepper to personal taste, starting cayenne small. Add a tiny pinch of black pepper to enhance turmeric absorption. This tonic is best enjoyed fresh, but pre-grated ginger/turmeric can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days. Consistency is key for benefits; this drink supports the body's natural processes rather than being a harsh detox. Consult a healthcare provider for existing health conditions or medications.
